It’s an experience you won’t soon forget. When you turn in the drive and catch the first glimpse of the classically beautiful clubhouse, you’ve found one of Fort Wayne’s most compelling and welcoming places.

But this is not the stereotypical country club: stodgy, dull and uninspired don’t work at Fort Wayne Country Club. This club is bustling with activity, both on and off the golf course. As many country clubs are struggling to find ways to remain relevant in today’s distracted and time-constrained world, Fort Wayne Country Club continues to enjoy a vibrant atmosphere.

In fact, members recently overwhelmingly approved a significant amenities enhancement that will bolster its reputation as Fort Wayne’s most active, fun and engaging club.

Among the enhancements, members will soon enjoy:

  1. A new resort style zero-entry swimming pool will be the hot place for summertime fun. Family and friends will gather around an expansive pool deck that surrounds unique water features for the kids (OK, parents too). There’s also going to be a new indoor/outdoor poolside bar that is sure to attract a crowd, especially during football season. When the weather cools off, new outdoor fireplaces will keep the fun going until long after the sun goes down.
  2. If you haven’t heard, there’s a new game taking the nation by storm…it’s called Pickleball. A mix of tennis and ping-pong, people love it because it’s active and social. It’s also an alternative to the physical demands of tennis because it’s played on smaller courts with paddles instead of racquets. The Tennis Center at Fort Wayne Country Club will be adding two new Pickleball courts and all of the organized team play, leagues and lessons to complement this exciting new activity.
  3. For golfers, the club is constructing a new Golf Academy – a freestanding building located directly on the expansive practice range – dedicated to helping members enhance their enjoyment of the game all year long. Heated hitting bays will keep golf clubs out of winter storage as members will be hitting real golf balls on to the practice range year-round. This also means the flight scope (the computer-aided instruction device that tracks the flight of your golf ball) will also be up and running 12 months per year as the club’s staff of golf instructors will be providing lessons and club fittings year-round. That early spring ‘rust’ will soon be a thing of the past for golfing members.
  4. Changes are taking place inside the clubhouse, too. The club’s new Executive Chef Aaron Parkinson is a renowned master of French-Asian fusion. Members are raving over dishes like the miso glazed pork chop with kimchi fried rice. The enhancement project also includes a new state-of-the-art health and fitness center to help members work off those extra calories courtesy of Chef Parkinson. A unique feature of the fitness center is a cardio equipment studio with a parkland view overlooking the ninth green and fairway. Other enhancements to the clubhouse will include a new ladies locker room with a dedicated card room and a beautiful new bridal suite for weddings hosted at the club.

“The members here really care about this club. We celebrate everything here, from first birthdays to the first day of summer; from New Year’s Eve to new beginnings, but most of all, our members celebrate the connections that happen here between families and friends” explains Troy Sprister, general manager at Fort Wayne Country Club.

“The club has a way of bringing people together. The enhancements will create more opportunities for members to connect and enjoy a better way of life. That’s why we’re all here and that’s why the members want these enhancements.”

Perhaps the most unexpected element of the project is that it will be completed without a capital assessment to its members. “It’s relatively unheard of in today’s club environment to contemplate a project of this magnitude without any type of hit to the members’ wallet.” says Sprister. “It’s a testament to the club’s strong governance and prudent fiscal management – and having an involved membership for the better part of the last century helps, too.”

Construction is set to start the day after Labor Day and will be complete by Memorial Day 2019. With the recent announcement of the amenities project, the club is already seeing an increase in inquiries for membership. Demand is expected to continue to increase steadily as initiation fees are also expected to rise in anticipation of completion.

The good news is that the club is currently accepting candidates for membership and has introduced a ‘pre-construction’ membership offer to facilitate the new wave of interest. Currently, the offer allows candidates to join now at a reduced initiation fee and no monthly dues until next spring – a great way to lock in a membership position before prices go up, while still enjoying plenty of golf this fall.

Even if you’re not a golfer, the opportunity to join Fort Wayne Country Club won’t get any better than right now. If you are interested in learning more, contact Leah Davis, membership director at (260) 432-2581 or visit https://www.fwccmembership.com to request more information.
