Fort Wayne’s Old Favorite Gets a New Vibe

The club has had a highly regarded reputation and a rich, longstanding tradition as the region’s premier country club.

In the club’s latest news, an approved master plan begins the process of putting awesome new amenities in place. The plan includes a new resort-style swimming pool, a new golf academy facility to offer winter practice and computerized instruction, fitness center, pickle ball courts and a ladies locker room renovation. The master plan construction will begin this spring with no assessment to members.

Much has changed over the last 110 years, but one thing remains the same, families lives are enriched by the quality time spent together at the club. Members can enjoy golf, swimming, tennis, dining, social gatherings and lots of family fun in a beautiful, resort-like setting. General Manager and COO Troy Sprister says, “We have a wide variety of amenities at the club, but our members join to be part of something special.”

“We have a long history of creating lasting memories for our member families,” says Sprister. “Our member’s children grow up here at the club. They celebrate birthdays, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas just to name a few. We now offer programming that is specifically designed for families and kids. We have junior athletic programs for golf, tennis and swim team during the summer. The junior tennis program is available all winter long, thanks to a heated indoor tennis facility that goes up in September and comes down in May. Fort Fun offers parents the opportunity to drop off their kids at the pool for fun activities while mom and dad play golf or tennis for a few hours.”

Fort Wayne Country Club provides several special events throughout the year for families and kids, at no additional cost. “Nocturnal Night was held recently with a scavenger hunt for nighttime creatures, and a close up view of live hawks and owls,” says Sprister. “We are always looking for creative ways to make the club more enjoyable for families and kids, our father-daughter dance, family game night, indoor glow golf and family bingo are just a few.”

Adults have the opportunity to engage with friends at fine wine dinners, spirit tastings, specialty culinary events, couples golf, mixed doubles tennis or just relaxing with a glass of wine on a rocking chair overlooking the lush green golf course. Fitness activities are becoming more and more popular as the club expands fitness related programing. Stronger for Longer is one program designed specifically to get seniors moving. Summertime water aerobics offers a great low impact workout while staying cool in the pool.

Fort Wayne County Club as a wedding venue is second to none. The club’s Banquet Manager Jacqueline Adams serves as on-site wedding coordinator, making the planning of the big day stress free. The stately clubhouse, customized menus and the ballroom overlooking the golf course make Fort Wayne Country Club the perfect place to celebrate this special occasion.

PGA Head Golf Professional Chad Ayres has big plans for enhancing the enjoyment of golf at the club as well. In the future, there will be a new indoor Golf Performance Academy that will be available year round for Fort Wayne Country Club members and their families to enjoy. The new academy will house an instructional bay with the latest launch monitor technologies for instant swing feedback and continuous improvement. Ayres strongly believes that the better club members play the game, the more they will enjoy it, leading ultimately to more visits and increased activity on the practice range and golf course. The new academy will allow the professional team to create new programs for all age and skill levels that will keep members engaged in the game of golf.

With summer right around the corner, people are starting to think about sunny days spent by the pool. The Fort Wayne Country Club has a regulation, 25-meter outdoor swimming pool with two diving boards. There is also a poolside café with table service and a full bar, and children can participate in the swim and dive teams and take junior swim lessons. “The pool is also a great venue for parties and other special events,” says Sprister.

The club has become more attractive to younger families through the junior membership. “Younger couples joining the club are amazed at the value of the junior membership,” says Sprister. “We want everyone to be able to enjoy all of the amenities and offerings at Fort Wayne Country Club.”
