Classic Marble and Stone has been in business for almost 30 years, and is located in Hoagland. It employs 20 people whose titles range from stone craftsmen to design specialists. Owner Mike Sorg does the purchasing of the product himself, selecting pieces quarried in Brazil, India, Italy and Norway. Sorg says that his recent fact-finding trip to Korea and China was fascinating and a visit to South America is on his bucket list.
A small project for the shop would be a statue base, or simple powder room vanity, but larger projects have included stonework for high-end homes and even hotel lobbies. Sorg takes great pride in admitting that his work graces the International Concourse at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta and can be seen at JFK Airport in New York, as well.
A high school teacher who had a lot of influence on him as a student once told him: “You don’t go into business, you grow into business.” That’s evident as you browse the showroom and fabrication complex where slabs of marble, granite and quartz of every size and color are sure to meet your building expectations.
