Few things are more complicated and ever-changing than taxes. For small business owners, managing the intricacies of tax compliance can be especially daunting. The experts at Crowe LLP, an accounting, consulting and technology firm with locations all over the world, including Fort Wayne, can make it easier.

With thousands of employees in a network of more than 200 offices, Crowe can offer resources that smaller firms can’t. Despite its size, though, Senior Tax Manager and Certified Public Accountant Samantha Bercot says Crowe provides a personalized approach. When working with clients, she spends time getting to know their needs and their goals, then combines the company’s expertise with a customized approach for each of them.

“We’ve got the knowledge base to back that up and so we help take our clients to the next level because we’ve got the experience to support it,” says Bercot.

Bercot and her team can help clients in all types of businesses but specialize in helping specific industries, working primarily with general contractors, subcontractors, and electrical contractors.

“I think a lot of people are really good at taxes. We’re really good at consulting and being strategic. Crowe does a nice job having focus instead of an everybody-fits-all kind of scenario. We believe in a deep specialization,” Bercot explains. “A lot of firms know a little bit about everything, but we try to let our people specialize in one area. Especially in construction and even the real estate group, they’ve got unique rules, unique transactions and strategic moves.”

At the heart of it all are relationships, which is what Bercot says really sets Crowe apart from others.

“We have a two-pronged approach. The deep specialization is one of them and our client experience is the other. We make sure that we’re exceptionally attentive and responsive,” she emphasizes. “These aren’t just clients that we’re serving from a business aspect. They’re personal

relationships that we try to develop. I’m invested in those relationships.”

The advisors at Crowe also pride themselves in taking proactive measures to help those they serve, rather than reacting to a problem.

“Through the COVID pandemic, I’ve been able to really handhold my clients through the Payroll Protection Program. It’s not necessarily a tax issue per se, but I know what’s going on out there. I’ve made phone calls to most of my clients weekly to see where they are. Maybe they weren’t impacted last week but they are this week,” Bercot says. “I just want to make sure that I’m there, I’m providing support and I can give them the resources that they need. I feel like my focus on client relationships goes beyond simply providing tax services and is more of being a trusted advisor and confidant.”
