It’s hard to believe, but the holiday season is upon us. While many of us have already stuffed ourselves full of turkey, there are still family get-togethers and gift giving to be done, which come alongside a busy travel season! It may be the season to be jolly, but sometimes traveling during the holidays can be stressful – but it doesn’t have to be. Being prepared is half the battle when taking to the skies. Sit back, relax and enjoy a few tips from Fort Wayne International Airport.

Check-In on your Phone
Make like Dasher and save paper and time. Use your airline’s mobile check-in feature to check into your flight up to 24 hours in advance. Your boarding pass and any additional flight information will be there for easy access. Airline mobile apps are also great for getting up-to-the-minute flight status updates and gate information.

Know the Rules at TSA
Here is where the inner-Scrooge shines through for most holiday travelers. Make sure you have your proper government-issued photo ID ready to go; little ones under the age of 18 may need a birth certificate depending on your airline. Keep in mind that TSA has the 3-1-1 rule for liquids and gels, and keep them in a separate zip lock or travel-friendly toiletry bag. Be aware of the newest TSA regulations, including the removal of all electronics from your carry-on bags. For a full list of items you can or cannot take through security, and answers to other security-related questions, visit www.tsa.gov.

Save the Gift Wrap
It’s a great thought to arrive at your destination with a pretty, wrapped gift ready to give, but gifts wrapped up and ready for Santa’s sleigh cannot go through the TSA checkpoint. Safety is a top priority at FWA and security personnel may need to unwrap gifts to gain access to all items.

Stay Busy
Although the airlines do their best to keep flights on time, delays do happen. Bring some music, snacks, a pillow or a good book to pass the time – or stop by FWA’s Samuel Adam’s Brewhouse or Seattle’s Best Coffee for dinner and a cold, seasonal brew or a cup of coffee to unwind. Traveling with children? Bring activities with you for fun in the airport and on the plane.

Treat Yourself
The holidays are definitely about the joy that giving gifts to others can bring, but don’t forget to treat yourself! Upgrade your seat, choose the exact spot on the plane where you want to sit or indulge in a few travel perks. Two routes from FWA feature dual class service – Dallas and Charlotte. This means more room to enjoy your flight and the option for first class service beginning right here at FWA. Allegiant has also started rolling out flights on updated aircraft at the airport.

Holiday travel can be stressful, but the more you know, the better you’ll weather any mishaps. Feel free to call the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority at (260) 747-4146 with any other questions you may have regarding your holiday air travel plans.

Happy travels and happy holidays! Thank you for choosing FWA.
