Building A Legacy

Northeast Indiana Building & Construction Trades Council (NEI Building Trades) has been working behind the scenes in Fort Wayne and its surrounding area since 1977, ensuring work for its members at livable wages, promoting economic development in the region, and lobbying for middle class-friendly legislation on state and local levels. Our Council members have been working tirelessly to continue this legacy and to get the organization out from behind the scenes and into the spotlight.

It’s no secret there are a number of phenomenal companies and organizations investing in our area with record amounts of construction. When the question arises of whom to call for construction or renovation, the answer is clear; When you build with local skilled labor, the guarantee is that you will get the highest quality work done on time and on budget. Sweetwater Founder and President Chuck Surack says, “Just as all of us at Sweetwater take pride in providing the best products and services for our customers, the contractors and skilled craftsmen of NEI Building Trades consistently provide high quality and professional work.”

The NEI Building Trades’ signatory contractors invest $42 million per year in apprenticeship training. Its nationally-recognized apprenticeship programs are second to none. Apprentices earn while they learn with on-site training, tuition-free classroom education and an accredited associate’s degree. NEI Building Trades ensures the right to work for the best companies. Several of our contractors are longstanding benchmarks in the community and strive to continue making our area bigger and better. The NEI Building Trades model provides the best productivity and profitability along with standardized training and reduced turnover for our contractors.

Our team of Council representatives, contractors and members could not be working harder to continue the fight for work and livable wages in our area. Every job site is full of men and women working to support their families, making livable wages, carrying good health insurance and investing in the community and local businesses.

Northeast Indiana Building & Construction Trades Council knows the importance of community and works toward a singular goal: to build a legacy. That legacy may be a beautiful new building for one of our end users, another 50 years of great business for one of our contractors, or a healthy and happy family for a member. Every single one of these legacies is important for northeast Indiana’s continued growth and success!
