You What? with Andy Welfle

What high school did you attend?
I served a one-year sentence at Bishop Dwenger High School. It wasn’t for me, so I homeschooled the other years and graduated a semester early.

If you had a time machine, to what time period would you travel?
Oh man, I’d probably travel to the future. There are too many ways to create temporal paradoxes in the past.

What three items would you want with you if you were stranded on a desert island (other than food and water)?
A radio transmitter, a beach umbrella (for shade) and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy five-part trilogy.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
In kindergarten, a truck driver. In elementary school, a paleontologist. In middle school, a poet. And in high school and college, a newspaper journalist.

What famous person would you most like to meet?
It’s a toss-up between Alton Brown and Merlin Mann. Oh, and Maya Angelou.

What is your biggest pet peeve?
Lack of communication and collaborating. There is so much duplication of effort in this city. One great product is so much better than four mediocre products.

Do you have a motto you live by?
This isn’t necessarily a motto, but I try to be honest, fair and empathetic. Oh, and I’m anti-Oxford Comma (AP Style all the way!).

When you go on vacation, when do you pack?
Usually the night before. I have a healthy streak of procrastination, but I try to rein it in before panic sets in.

What would you choose as your last meal?
Since I usually try to be gluten-free, if it was my last meal, I’m pretty sure I’d load up on pizza, fancy beers and cinnamon rolls.

If you could solve one major problem, what would it be?
War. What is it good for? (Absolutely nothing.)

Do you sing aloud when you are alone in your car?
Generally, I’m listening to public radio or podcasts, so sometimes I yell at the radio.

If you won $20 million in the lottery, what would you do with the money?
I’d like to think that I’d invest it conservatively and live off the dividends. But in all honestly, I’d pay off my student loans, put some money in a college fund for my niece, buy an iPad and then blow the rest in a year.
